2017 Annual Celebration
October 6 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The Friends of the Georgia Museum of Natural History cordially invites you to attend our annual fund-raising event being held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the State Botanical Gardens of Georgia. We are delighted that our guest speaker this year is Dr. Justin O. Schmidt author of “The Sting of the Wild.” Dr. Schmidt received his doctorate in entomology in 1977 from the University of Georgia. He shared the 2015 Ig Nobel Prize in Physiology and Entomology. Schmidt’s prize was awarded for “painstakingly creating the Schmidt Sting Pain Index, which rates the relative pain people feel when stung by various insects,” according to the web site of the Annals of Improbable Research, which organizes the prizes. His paper “Hemolytic Activities of Stinging Insect Venoms,” by Justin O. Schmidt, Murray S. Blum and William L. Overal, appeared in the Archives of Insect Biochemistry and Physiology in 1984. It is available online at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/arch.940010205/abstract.
Please RSVP no later than September 22, 2017.
The event will commence at 6:00 p.m. with cocktails and a silent auction. Dinner will be served at 8:00.
